Cookie Policy
What cookies and similar technologies are, what this website stores, and how you can change or withdraw your choice.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store; the browser sends it back with later requests so that the site can recognise your browser. Cookies may be set by the site itself or by another domain embedded in the page, and may last for a session or for a set period.
Websites also use other forms of storage with a similar effect. The main one here is local storage, an area inside your browser that is read only by the site's own code and is not sent to the server with every request. It remains until it is deleted.
What this website stores
This website loads no scripts from third-party services and no embedded content from other domains. Fonts and images are served from the same domain as the pages. One cookie is always set, because the site cannot choose the language of a page without it: it holds the language that was worked out for you when you arrived. A second is set if you use the language control. Everything else is stored only if you accept cookies.
| Name | Type | Category | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
gl-pref |
Cookie | Strictly necessary | Holds the language you chose with the control at the top of the page, so that you are not moved back to another language on your next visit. It holds the two-letter code of a language and nothing else. | Twelve months |
gl-detected |
Cookie | Strictly necessary | Holds the language that was worked out for you when you first arrived, so that the country of your connection is looked up once rather than on every page. It holds the two-letter code of a language and nothing else, and the page cannot read it. | Thirty days |
gl-cookie-consent |
Local storage entry | Strictly necessary | Records whether you chose “Accept all” or “Essential only” on the cookie banner, so that it is not shown again on each page. | Until you delete it or clear your browser data |
gl_vid |
Cookie | Analytics, set only with your consent | Holds a random identifier that links the pages you read to one another and, if you later send an enquiry, links them to that enquiry. It holds no information about you and cannot be read by scripts on the page. | Twelve months |
gl_admin |
Session cookie | Strictly necessary | Keeps an administrator signed in to the firm's administration area. Set only for administrators, never for visitors. | Until the administrator signs out or the session expires |
The gl-pref and gl-detected cookies hold the
two-letter code of a language and nothing else. They are not shared with anyone
and are not used to recognise you on any other website. The
gl-detected cookie is set only once, when you first arrive, and
its expiry is renewed each time you visit.
The gl-cookie-consent entry holds the text of your choice only. It
does not identify you, is not sent to the firm, and is not shared with anyone. If
your browser blocks local storage, nothing is saved and the banner appears again on
the next visit.
The gl_vid cookie is set only if you choose “Accept all”.
It is not an advertising identifier, is not shared with any third party, and is
not used to recognise you on any other website. If you choose “Essential
only” it is never set, and no record of the pages you read is kept.
Analytics and marketing
The website measures its own use with a first-party log held on the firm's own server. It records which pages were read and when, so that the firm can see which parts of the site are useful. It runs only after you choose “Accept all”.
The same log records the country and network your connection appears to come from, so that the firm can recognise automated and fraudulent enquiries. Your IP address is not stored: it is used to look that information up and then discarded, and only the result is kept.
This website contains no advertising, remarketing or social-media tracking, and no third-party analytics tool. If the firm decides to add one, the script will load only after you choose “Accept all”, and this page will name the provider, the data it collects and how long it keeps it before any such tool is enabled.
Changing your choice
You may change or withdraw your choice at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place while consent was in force.
- Choose again. The cookie banner offers two choices: “Essential only” stores nothing beyond what the site needs to function; “Accept all” records consent to optional categories, which on this site are the first-party visitor log and the cookie that supports it.
-
Make the banner reappear. Remove the local storage entry
gl-cookie-consentfor this website in your browser's settings (usually under Application, then Local Storage, in the developer tools), or clear the site data for the domain. The banner will be shown again. -
Remove the visitor identifier. Deleting the cookie
gl_vidfor this website stops the record of your visit being linked to further visits. It also means that an enquiry you send later will no longer be linked to the pages you read. -
Forget the language. Deleting the cookies
gl-prefandgl-detectedfor this website makes the site work out the language again on your next visit, as it does for a first-time visitor. - Ask us. If you would like help removing the entry, or have a question about a choice you have made, contact the firm below.
Browser controls
Your browser lets you control cookies and storage independently of this website. The menu names differ between browsers; the usual location is the privacy or security section of the browser's settings. You can block cookies, delete them for specific sites or all sites, use private windows that discard storage when closed, and set cookies to be removed when the browser closes.
Blocking optional cookies does not affect the pages themselves. It may mean that your choice is not remembered, that the banner is shown on each visit, and that no record is kept of the pages you read.
