Professional title and admission
The firm's lawyers hold the professional title of attorney-at-law (Rechtsanwalt / Rechtsanwältin, avvocato), which Swiss law protects and reserves to lawyers entered on a cantonal register. Admission to the bar is granted by the competent authority of a canton. A lawyer admitted in one canton may act throughout Switzerland and is entered on the register of each canton in which he or she practises.

Professional rules
The lawyers' professional activity is governed by the Swiss Lawyers Act (Bundesgesetz über die Freizügigkeit der Anwältinnen und Anwälte, BGFA), by the rules the competent authorities of the canton of admission issue under it, and by the rules on professional secrecy in Swiss law. Among other matters, these require lawyers to act independently, to avoid conflicts of interest, to keep client information confidential, and to hold professional indemnity insurance of at least the amount that the Swiss Lawyers Act sets.
Swiss federal law is published, in consolidated form, in the Systematic Compilation of Federal Law at www.fedlex.admin.ch. The cantonal rules on the practice of law are published by the authorities of the canton concerned.
